In 1988, Bridges launched its first mobile outreach, and began bringing food, clothing and necessities to the homeless living on the streets of New York City. Through uninterrupted, weekly street outreach (which we call a “Run”), Bridges has sustained its mission to bring the housed and homeless together in community for more than 25 years. In 1992, to address the need closer to home, Bridges began regular outreach in Newark and then, in 1994, began outreach in Irvington, New Jersey. Each year, Bridges makes more than 225 “Runs,” or outreach visits to the street, providing food, clothing and necessities to 500 people in need each week.
